ASA Listening Session: Conservation Planner

Hi everyone, just posting that the very first ASA opportunity is a CCA: Connect Listening Session about the FarmOS: Conservation Planner application that @mstenta, Erin Pearse, @ErikaFosterSoils and I (and others) have been working on. (I’m going to post also so you can submit your ASA communication or presentation request shortly).

The goal is to demo and get feedback on Mike’s initial work, and to better understand what other users might want, need, find useful, etc.

I think you have to be an ASA member to go, and we only have 1 login, so it’s not really a public event (:expressionless: ) but if you are an member of tri-societies you can attend. We’ll give an update here after it’s done.

CCA Connect: What Do CCAs Actually Need From Conservation Planning Software?

CCA Connect is an informal, peer-to-peer virtual conversation for Certified Crop Advisers who want a direct voice in the tools and innovations shaping farm management. In this session, Mike Stenta and Erin Pearse (Cal Poly) will share a brief demo of new open-source conservation planning features being developed within FarmOS. This session is in partnership with Gathering for Open Agricultural Technology (GOAT).

After a short demo, the conversation will open up to CCAs to discuss:

  • What you need from conservation planning software

  • Where current tools fall short in real-world advising

  • What would make a platform truly useful in the field

Participants will also be invited to share feedback through a short survey that will directly inform future development.

Hi Greg! Can you provide the date and time and a link to access, even if just for ASA members?

@ErikaFosterSoils Well… I’m not sure how because the link isn’t restricted and I’m not 100% sure I should share it here because then non-members can show up.

It’s all very odd, I’m definitely not used to this, just don’t want to mess it up.

I believe if you’re an ASA member, you should get an email or you can sign up in the member hub here: https://memberhub.sciencesocieties.org/.

We (Thanks @mstenta ) just finished our first CCA Connect (Listening Session). Here’s how it went:

  • We had 42 actual participants and 192 signed up.
  • We had a pretty active chat, good questions and very useful feedback
  • We got 7 additional submissions to our survey (which is important for the project and understanding what we should do/review/consider next), and they were diverse (WI, NV, CA, and east coast).
  • We did some in-session polling which was fun and informative.

Overall review:

:+1: Do it!

Jamie was great to work with, we got meaningful numbers, brainstormed other ideas, and overall got good feedback.
