ASA Opportunities, CANVAS 2026 Question

I’m representing GOAT on the ASA Innovation Roundtable calls and we had one today led by the super duper Jamie Nix.

I want to inform this group a few things:

  1. There will be quite a few opportunities to engage in talks (as a moderator, presenter, on a panel, etc.) a GOAT could engage in.
  2. There is opportunity to help suggest direction and present (or suggest presenters) in the general Industry talk (communicating trends and experiences from the field to students / academics).

I will post those details when I get them, and folks can offer to take part.

Other (bigger) question: does GOAT want to engage in the CANVAS conference this year (and if so how and who)? Some information that could help us organize (if we so choose):

  1. Who is already going to attend?
  2. What other orgs may also want a booth (or are planning to have a booth)… thinking @jlp2duke Ben C. from AgGateway, OpenTEAM or FarmHack…? This is a collaboration opportunity and cost-offset opportunity for sure.
  3. What are our goals at CANVAS? What programs (like maybe some of the FLOAT projects) might benefit from having presence there?

I’m pretty sure we will have at least 1 person from UBC/LiteFarm in attendance and happy to share booth costs!

Cool… question… is anyone who is going willing to organize the booth part? I am happy to help and coordinate and such, but not sure if I’ll be able to go specifically.

Could be an opportunity to get a ticket paid and things if you do go!

Hello everyone! I work with Science Societies. We have a speaking opportunity for this fall at CANVAS in Portland, OR. If this is of interest to you, please email me [email protected] and cc Greg.

The speaking opportunity would be a quick presentation (5min), then you’d join a panel discussion with three other panelists including Alex Park, Division Agronomist and Certified Crop Adviser at Helena, an agronomist or researcher at Bayer, and TBD.

Title: Industry Symposium - Field Perspectives: Challenges, Tools, and Trends

Description: Panelists will discuss current challenges and emerging technologies in agriculture, and how scientific research is applied in management decisions. Drawing on firsthand experience, they will share examples that show how issues unfold under field conditions and which approaches are gaining traction across agricultural systems.

Date: November 3rd from 1:30-3:30pm

Schedule:

  • 1:30-1:50pm - Rapid fire presentations
  • 1:50-2:50pm - Panelist Q&A with moderator
  • 2:50-3:30pm - Networking with members and and industry
