Future GOAT Software Infrastructure Brainstrorming

At GOAT 2024 we touched (I think a few times) on the idea that we should be using open source for managing more of the logistics and data for future GOAT events - as opposed to continuing with Google drive/docs/photos/etc and potentially other services.

Perhaps someone else is already spearheading this, but I thought I’d start this thread to discuss potential gaps and solutions.

To start things off, I’d suggest that a good foundational component would be authentication/authorization - perhaps via an OAuth2 server like Keycloak. That would allow common logins and possibly permissions for any other services we require - including this Discourse forum.

I work on things like this for my employer and my homelab. Rope me in if you think I can help with consulting, building, maintenance, etc.

I’m happy to collab with you or whomever is running point on infra.

I’m running a Keycloak instance for our “farm” software infrastructure.

I’m far from an expert with it, but I’d be happy to collaborate! That said, given the sensitivity of the problem domain I’d understand if folks wanted to choose an existing hosted solution or if the already trusted admins - e.g. of the forum - wanted to take it on.
