I’d like to submit a 1 hr “Office Hours” workshop/session proposal to CAFF California Small Farms conference. I want it to be a service activity. I would need a team of people to carry this out. It should include only light-weight prep, and show up for that one hour session. Anybody interested? Session application due date is Sept 15. This session could be online or in person.
Working Title:
Ag Tech and Data Office Hours.
Description:
This workshop is hosted by data architects, user experience researchers, and software developers that specialize in agriculture for farmers and service providers who have a technological or data problem they need help thinking through. Workshop hosts will capture notes on your problem, provide action items to address it, and provide references to tools and resources.
Draft Learning Objectives
Attendees will learn how to breakdown their problem or concept into addressable parts
Attendees will learn about open source and free tools
Attendees will learn about data sovereignty and privacy
Note: Most sessions are 1 hour and online during the conference week (Feb 23-28) but as this is a hybrid event, there is opportunity to request an in-person activity and/or a longer session.
It would be interesting if we could actually facilitate some form of “virtual 1:1 appointments” throughout that week. People could sign up to have a 15-30 minute 1:1 session and provide some details on their situation/interests, we try to connect them with an appropriate GOAT. I know this could get overly complicated but a simple google form to survey interested people a few weeks before and match them up in some pre-defined time slots throughout the week (avoid scheduling nonsense)? I’d happily do a few sessions
Honestly wonder if there could even be a virtual GOAT office hours each day of the week. One time will never get everyone - offering even just a few would be great and make it seem like a larger event. Virtual is much easier for us to share the effort and it would be great outreach!
