Hi folks - David Stearn and Lucie are looking for someone from GOAT to attend this great co-design workshop convening in Kenya in May 11 - 15th (option to stay before or after is possible).
They were hopeful to get at least one GOAT to go, and I also think it would be really valuable to avoid the divergent development paths in US and other contexts that so often happens
The person should have been to at least one GOATand can report back when they’re done and help develop connections.
Organizers: @sudokita@Steve-TechMatters@jesustorres@julietnpn… given we did have some independent donations, and given FLoATs support and (IMO) the bang for the buck for this particular event, I would propose that GOAT pays for some (or even all) of this. I think this is a GOAT-box like event but uniquely valuable to the community and very relevant to many of our key members and partners.
The timeline is also very short (1 month)… I apologize for the late request, but heard this on a FLOAT call today.
Very timely! Courtney Tiberio is actively looking at whether she can participate, though she would need financial support to do so. I think she would start by asking the event for support; I don’t know if they’ve already used up their support $$ in (appropriately) preferentially supporting African attendees.
I think the limitation here is funding, but I want to propose to Organizers that we help fund this. Maybe we could have a call about it between normal meetings because it is time sensitive
It sounds like we’ve got some great folks going from LiteFarm, but I think having one more person go would be nice. I do think that person will need travel support.
I’m sending this to David at IDEMS, but to confirm:
@Courtney are you interested (you were first mentioned)
Hi all,
Thank you Greg for posting, and thanks for the interest shown in the upcoming workshop! There is a really interesting list of participants - and projects/organisations - lined up.
We’re finalising participant lists and had reserved a spot for a GOAT representative (thanks for registering, Courtney), but it does depend on finances. If it’s possible for GOAT to support the international travel we could definitely cover local expenses. There’s a possibility we’ll get additional funding but we’re still waiting for confirmation for this and I’m aware that the workshop is fast approaching.
