Plug and play server - interesting future?

I found this - a raspberry pi service that creates a single install web-browser accessible server. Basically - super easy remote access -

I really like this as a future concept - I’m kind of annoyed and done with SaaS (says a person with a company with 2 SaaS products).

What if going forward, we go backward - locally installed, locally deployed but easy and remotely login-able software. If you need to aggregate or share data, cool - use Solid or other protocols to index and make available data you have chosen to share.

So many of the scaling issues relate to server stuff, privacy stuff, login flows, user complexity… etc. etc. etc.

Also, let’s be honest - the future is increasingly in AI mediated interactions with your data, and that AI needs to be local first. So all the UI bullshit we spend so much time on will be minimized anyway, with more plain english interfacing.

Anywho, that’s my little rant - what do others think? Maybe lots of folks already see this and I’m late to the party?

You are speaking my language.

I have a whole workflow that leverages local cheap hardware I’ve been developing (well assembling from others is probably more accurate).

The key to remote access is to get good at doing that with proxy’s and updating dynamic IPs, then keeping everything local from then on. Loving some of Cloudflare’s options for enabling this.

I’ll revisit this later. I think this is a VERY smart values-driven approach.
